Abstract

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Our aim is to evaluate the level of knowledge and skills related to basic life support of health practitioners and non-health workers in our hospital and to investigate whether there is a difference before and after training.
METHODS: Specialist physician, general practitioner, nurse, emergency health technician, health officer, security and automation personnel working in pediatric emergency department were included in the study. Information on pediatric basic life support was provided in accordance with the 2015 AHA (American Heart Association) guidelines. The participants were pre-tested before the course. Participants are evulated by theoretical and post-test evaluation.
RESULTS: A total of 110 people participated in the course: 13 specialist doctors, 3 general practitioners, 74 nurses, 7 health officers, 6 emergency medical technicians, 6 security staff and 1 automation staff. A statistically significant difference was found between the professions before the training. There was no significant difference in the level of knowledge of specialist, general practitioners and emergency medical technicians before and after training. A significant difference was found in other occupational groups after training (p <0.05).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Although there was an increase in the knowledge level of the participants after the trainings, we can say that the level of knowledge and awareness is not sufficient when the whole course is evaluated. We think that continuity of education is necessary.
