Traditional and Complementary Medical Methods in Singultus (Hiccup) Treatment

Year 2021, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 10 - 17, 19.05.2021

Abstract

Hiccups is an experience that negatively affects the individual and causes a rapid decline in the quality of life of people along with depression, insomnia, malnutrition and exhaustion. Hiccups occur due to involuntary, intermittent, spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles. It is widely accepted that hiccups are produced by a 'reflex arc' with afferent, central and efferent components. Treatment for the cause of hiccups should be done. Chronic hiccups are usually treated with pharmacological methods. Studies have shown that traditional and complementary medicine methods are effective in acute hiccups. In the literature, there is little information about which interventions are effective or harmful with the use of these applications in the treatment of acute or chronic hiccups. Regarding hiccups, it is seen that the Turkish literature review studies are not sufficient. The aim of this article is to explain the traditional and complementary medicine methods used in the treatment of hiccups.

Singultus (Hıçkırık) Tedavisinde Non-farmakolojik Girişimler

Year 2021, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 10 - 17, 19.05.2021
