Abstract

Coexistence of Familial Mediterranean Fever and Multiple Sclerosis: A Case Report

Abstract

Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autosomal recessively inherited genetic disease of ethnic origin, characterized by recurrent acute fever and inflammation of the serous membranes. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system with a multifactorial etiology. Central nervous system involvement is not common in the course of FMF. There are opinions arguing that FMF is related to multiple sclerosis as well as claiming that it is a coincidental association. In this article, the process of diagnosing multiple sclerosis in a patient with FMF is shared.
