Abstract

Background: This study was planned to investigate the effect of plastic adhesive dressing in preventing surgical site infection in cases undergoing appendectomy.
Materials and Methods: Sixty patients between 20 and 60 years old patients who underwent appendec-tomy were included in the study. 30 of the patients were divided into two groups as experiment and 30 as control group. The operation area of the patients in the experimental group was stained with 10% povidone iodine in an antiseptic solution and covered with a sterile adhesive cover and their operations were perfor-med. In the control group, the operation area was stained only with antiseptic solution povidone iodine. In both groups, the incision areas were dressed with 10% povidone iodine at the end of the operation and once a day in the first 48 hours. Sociodemographic data of the patients were evaluated in terms of surgical site infection in the postoperative period, both with clinical (redness, tenderness, discharge temperature, ede-ma, body temperature) and laboratory data. Results were evaluated using chi- square and t tests. P <0.05 was considered statistically significant in all tests.
Results: In the study, there was no significant difference between the diagnostic characteristics of the patients in the experimental and control groups and the infection findings on the 2nd and 15th days after surgery (p> 0.5). There was no evidence of infection in either group.
Conclusions: In this study, it was observed that adhesive surgical dressings did not provide additional benefit in terms of preventing infection compared to standard dressings in preventing surgical field infecti-ons.

Ameliyat Esnasında Kullanılan Plastik Yapışkanlı Örtünün Cerrahi Alan Enfeksiyonuna Etkisinin İncelenmesi
