Pediatric Nursing has developed in parallel with the change in the value given to the child from the past to the present. Magic and religion played a large part in child care and treatment of diseases in prehistoric society. In early age civilizations, the value given to children varied according to gender. In the middle ages, poor living conditions such as epidemics, wars and poverty affected negatively child health and care. With the prominence of humanism in the Renaissance, positive developments in the value given to human beings. The establishment of children’s hospitals and the need for child care providers to be educated has enabled the development of pediatric nursing. Nursing profession in Turkey for the first time as a professional started with ‘voluntary nursing’ courses opened by Dr. Besim Ömer Pasha. With the understanding that children have different needs than adults, the opening of children’s hospitals, today’s modern ‘Pediatric Nursing’ has been formed.
