Investigation of Post-Earthquake Rehabilitation Studies in Children by Bibliographic Analysis Method: A Systematic Review

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 537 - 543, 21.06.2023

Abstract

Objective: Children are one of the groups most affected by earthquake-related adverse events. Rehabilitation practices are very important to ensure that earthquake-affected children achieve and maintain optimal independence, functioning; full physical, mental, social abilities, and participation in all aspects of life and environments. The aim of this study is to examine post-earthquake rehabilitation studies in children by bibliographic analysis method.

Material and Method: Forty-eight original articles published from the Web of Science Core Collection database from the beginning of the literature to the date of the review were analyzed. Bibliometrics, a scientific mapping software, was used for data analysis and visualization of the literature. Performance analysis, content analysis, dynamic analyses, and strategic diagram analysis were performed to systematically reveal information about the studies.

Results: Most studies were conducted on depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental health, fractures, and pain. The studies were mostly conducted by research institutes and similarly mostly originated from the Far East. Children with special needs and disaster preparedness have only recently begun to be examined in the literature. Mental health and post-traumatic stress disorder have only recently started to be studied in the literature and have the potential to significantly impact the field.

Conclusion: This study visualized and analyzed emerging trends and trending topics by reviewing studies on post-earthquake rehabilitation in children. It was observed that there are very few qualified studies investigating the effects of earthquakes on children and the interest of researchers in this subject. A more comprehensive and detailed presentation of the multifaceted effects of earthquakes on children's health will ensure that the importance of this issue is understood by more readers, researchers, clinicians, industry professionals, and policy makers. Mental health professionals give the most importance to this issue and this awareness should be increased and spread to other areas of rehabilitation.

Çocuklarda Deprem Sonrası Rehabilitasyon Çalışmalarının Bibliyografik Analiz Yöntemiyle İncelenmesi: Sistematik Derleme

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 537 - 543, 21.06.2023
