Abstract
In this literature study, the general characteristics of pumice stone are presented and the fact that more than 50% of total pumice reserve in our country exists in Bitlis and Van provinces is emphasized. Pumice with a hardness of 5-6 in accordance with the Mohs hardness scale and a specific gravity of 1-2 gr/cm3 has a variety of application areas ranging from construction and agriculture sectors to chemical industry. Mining with simple methods is an additional advantage of pumice. The maximum mining yield cannot be achieved and the pumice reserves are severely destroyed due to improper mining operations across both provinces with very high reserves. Abstract
Bu derleme çalışması kapsamında genel olarak pomza kayasının genel özellikleri sunulmuş olup, ülkemizde bulunan toplam pomza rezervinin %50’den fazlasının Bitlis ve Van illerinde olduğuna dikkat çekilmiştir. Sertliği Mohs sertlik skalasında 5-6, özgül ağırlığı 1-2 gr/cm3 olan pomzanın inşaat ve tarım sektöründen, kimya endüstrisine kadar uzanan çeşitli kullanım alanları mevcuttur. Pomzanın basit madencilik yöntemleriyle işletilebilmesi ayrı bir artı değer katmaktadır. Bu kadar çok rezerve sahip olan bu iki ilimizde bilinçsiz madencilik çalışmaları neticesinde pomza rezervlerinden mümkün olan yüksek verim alınamamakta ve bu rezervler verimsiz bir şekilde harap edilmektedir. Çalışmada bahsi geçen Van ve Bitlis illerinde pomza madenciliğine yeteri kadar önem verilmesi durumunda bölge ve ülke ekonomisine katkıları son derece büyük olacaktır
