The Effect of Spiritual Care Programs for Children and Parents with Cancer Diagnosis on Psychosocial Problems: A Literature Review

Öz

Aim: This review aims to examine the effects of spiritual care programs developed for children or parents with cancer diagnoses on psychosocial problems.
Material and Methods: PubMed, SAGE Journals Online, Cochrane, and CINAHL Plus databases were searched and 8 experimental and quasi-experimental studies conducted between 2011 and 2021 were examined. The keywords "cancer, oncology, child, parent, palliative care, and spiritual care" were used in the literature review.
Results: As a result of the search, a total of 456 articles were reached and 8 articles that met the criteria were included in the study. The sample of the included studies consists of the children followed up with the diagnosis of cancer or their parents. The number of sessions included in the spiritual care program in the 8 articles that make up the sample is at least 4 and at most 7.
Conclusion: At the end of the sampled studies; It has been determined that spiritual care programs for children and parents reduce anxiety, stress, anxiety and burnout levels, improve coping skills, and increase mothers' mental health levels. It has been determined that spiritual care programs have important contributions in reducing psychosocial problems and strengthening the individual.

Kanser Tanısıyla İzlenen Çocuklara ve Ebeveynlerine Yönelik Spiritüel Bakım: Bir Literatür Derlemesi

Öz

Amaç: Bu derleme, kanser tanısı ile izlenen çocuk ya da ebeveynlere yönelik geliştirilen spiritüel bakım programlarının psikososyal sorunlara etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: PubMed, SAGE Journals Online, Cochrane, CINAHL Plus veri tabanları taranarak 2011-2021 yılları arasında yapılmış 8 deneysel ve yarı deneysel çalışma incelenmiştir. Literatür taramasında “cancer, oncology, child, parent, palliative care ve spiritual care” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Tarama sonucunda toplam 456 makaleye ulaşılmış ve ulaşılan makalelerden kriterlere uyan 8 makale çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Dahil edilen çalışmaların örneklemini kanser tanısıyla izlenen çocuk ya da ebeveynleri oluşturmaktadır. Örneklemi oluşturan 8 makalede spiritüel bakım programı içerisinde yer alan seans sayısı en az 4 en fazla 7’dir.
Sonuç: Örnekleme alınan çalışmaların sonunda; çocuk ve ebeveynlere yönelik yürütülen spiritüel bakım programlarının anksiyete, stres, endişe ve tükenmişlik düzeylerini azalttığı, başetme becerilerini geliştirdiği ve annelerin mental sağlık düzeylerini yükselttiği saptamıştır. Spiritüel bakım programlarının psikososyal sorunların azaltılması ve bireyin güçlendirilmesinde önemli katkıları olduğu saptanmıştır.
